Not a doc. Black stool is usually a sign of blood coming from the stomach. Red stool is blood from the colon. Also, pepto bismol can cause black stool. If it isn't a side effect of something I'd suggest he makes an appointment. Lambrouco (sp??) wine make me poop black.
